Twinkle Star Children’s Trust – York Cycle Ride 2014
On Saturday 13th September six Cambridgeshire residents will be cycling from Cambridge to York to raise money for Twinkle Star Children’s Trust charity. The 200 mile ride, completed over two days, will be in memory of four year old Isaac Chapman. Isaac’s father, Howard, and friends and members of Howard’s local cycling club, aim to arrive at York Minster around 5.00pm on Sunday 14th.
The Twinkle Star Children’s Trust Charity was set up by Howard and his partner Dawn following the death of their son in February 2012. ‘In our grief we felt a great empathy for children who suffer, who don’t have the advantages that Isaac was lucky to have. So we set up the charity aiming to support local children’s projects and enrich the lives and experiences of children from disadvantaged and challenging backgrounds.’
Isaac was taken ill and died suddenly after complications from contracting the flu virus whilst the family were in York. ’Every child we are able to help helps us cope with the loss of Isaac’. As York was where Isaac spent his last days it was the obvious destination for the cycle ride. ‘Exercise is I believe a great way to combat depression and boost your mental health’, says Howard. ‘As a wise man once said, “A bicycle ride is a flight from sadness”. ‘Cycling has really helped me cope with Isaac’s loss’.
So far the charity has raised over £15,000 to assist local school projects, including building a sensory garden at Sunflower House children’s respite home in Cottenham, Cambridge. ’Isaac was a sensitive, loving and considerate boy and had a passion for drawing and nature. Protection of the natural world is very important to me as well’. As the charity grows, Howard and Dawn would like the Trust to support projects that educate children on the importance of preserving the environment for their own futures.
Those wishing to support the bike ride can come to Cottenham village green for 9.00am on Saturday 13th September where the cycle ride starts. Donations are welcome via the charity’s Just Giving page or you can donate £5 by texting ‘YORK06 £5’ to 70070.
Support is also very welcome via the Trust’s Facebook page.
